Leslie cautiously peered across from the hidden position behind the thick sequoia tree. The mountains were strangely quiet, as if the whole world was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen. Leslie, feeling it fine to set out, revealed herself and tip-toed into the cold, cutting air as it blasted past the mountain peak. Her hands numbly held the sparkling amethyst, which at the moment was reflecting a colorful spectrum, and her mind held the burden of the urgency of her task. Through the corner of her eye, Leslie spied a smooth valley, dotted in pink specks which appeared to be flowers. Breaking into an easy run, Leslie placed the sparkling amethyst in the shadow of the tall trees, and started murmuring inaudibly. The crystal glowed, its light blinding, and then, a steady stream of color poured through. Leslie watched the sky fill in magnificent colors. A rainbow. Not daring to ruin the color, with trembling hands, Leslie reached forward to grab the magic crystal. This was the part where she always messed up.  She snatched the crystal, and all of a sudden, the color extinguished. The flame in Leslie’s heart went out, and every bit of her quivered. She had failed her task again. She remembered Aaron’s words…”Leslie, your job is very important, but we have no space for one who cannot master this. We’ve given you many chances, and if you can’t do it right this time, don’t bother to come back” Don’t bother to come back….

Leslie’s mind raced back to all she knew she was. Her family came from a high line of magical wizards. Her mother was a  Moon Fairy, and used her ties with the moon to control the waters. Her father was one with the Sun, and had a fiery tendency to spark fires with a simple hand gesture. It was only recently that it was Leslie’s turn to choose her magical power, and she chose to be a Rainbow Fairy. With her magical amethyst, Leslie could make streams of color flow in the sky, and let the heavens rejoice in beauty. Aaron, the Leader of the Fairies, had told her once about the importance of a Rainbow Fairy, and though Leslie wasn’t as great as her parents, she still recognized her powers. The only problem was that Leslie was a horrible Rainbow fairy. She had failed thrice at her job, and now she was banished, as Aaron had told her not to come back if she failed again. And she did….

Leslie remembered her present dilemma and thought of what to do. She had no choice but to give up her magic powers and to blend in with the humans if she wouldn’t be accepted by her people again. Her one choice wasn’t going to be easy in any manner….
